03Technology Turning theory into reality through iterative simulation and evaluation.

Despite being a trading company, we developed internally and even patented our original sound-absorbing material, 'QonPET.' Its origin traces back to an earnest request from a customer in 1997 wishing to 'reduce industrial waste.' Our challenge began in search of an 'environmentally friendly new material' to replace existing materials that had recycling issues. On this page, we introduce the trajectory of developing this new material, which was born from customer feedback and has now grown to support global social infrastructure, as well as our technical stance of being deeply involved in manufacturing beyond the boundaries of a traditional trading company.

  • Taking cues from trends in the automotive industry, entering the market in just two years

While searching for new materials, an article caught our attention stating that a certain automaker had begun adopting polyester fiber for sound-absorbing materials to promote recycling. We immediately approached the relevant parties and launched development in unison with material and molding manufacturers. As a result of repeated prototyping and verification, its first adoption for construction machinery vehicles was decided in a short period of just two years from the start of development. It was truly the exact moment when a product developed firsthand by a trading company was recognized by the market.

  • Evolving from domestic to global, and into a material that supports social infrastructure

Subsequently, 'QonPET' expanded beyond Japan to various parts of the world, including Asia, Europe, and the Americas, through our customers' networks, growing into a globally successful product. Furthermore, in recent years, it has been adopted in new domains such as high-speed railways, continuing to expand its presence as a critical material that fundamentally supports social infrastructure.

  • Going beyond the boundaries of a trading company, continuing to build the future from voices

Sound-absorbing materials may appear to be a plain commodity at first glance. However, facing social issues such as environmental problems head-on, and diving deeply into the 'integrated flow of manufacturing' alongside experts—this is precisely the greatest strength of KBG and our core technical stance. 'QonPET' was born from customer feedback and continues to evolve even today. We will continue to listen sincerely to our customers' voices, moving beyond the boundaries of a trading company to steadily co-create value needed by society.
